INTERNAL COMPLAINTS PROCEDURES IN RESPECT OF COMPLAINTS AGAINST CARTERS ADVOCATES
If a client has a complaint against a member of staff the Complaint should be forwarded in writing marked Private and Confidential to J.P.B. Carter, Carters at the address of the office which is currently 9 Circular Road Douglas IM1 1AF
The matter will then be looked into and a meeting will be set up shortly thereafter to go through any complaint to see if the matter is capable of resolution.
If there is a complaint against the activities of J.P.B. Carter the Principal of the Practice, then it should be addressed to Aalish Watson Advocate at the same address
If the allegation is one of negligence, then parties are advised to seek independent legal advice and will be referred to the Isle of Man Law Society.
Therefore if a complaint concerns the conduct of a member of staff, the complaint should be made in writing to Mr J.P.B. Carter. If a complaint concerns an allegation of negligence by the Practice, then the parties will be advised to seek the assistance of the Isle of Man Law Society.
If the party feels that the complaint is capable of resolution then there is nothing to prevent the party from contacting J.P.B. Carter on an informal basis and/or to contact the Isle of Man Law Society with a view to conciliation taking place.
For the avoidance of doubt allegations of a frivolous or vexatious nature or on a purely political nature that contain no substance (for example an allegation of political incorrectness) will not be entertained.
Allegations of criminality should be referred to the Isle of Man Constabulary.
This notice is in terms of Rule 3.6.4 of the Advocates Practice Rules 2024 issued by the Isle of Man Law Society.
For the year ending 31st December 2024 there was one complaint which is currently being reviewed by an independent Advocate appointed by the PI Insurers
